The Dude Rancher Lodge in Billings dates back to the early 1950s and was the first large hotel built in the town since the late 19th century. It is rumored to be one of the most haunted destinations in Montana, with multiple rooms being extra eerie.

In the restaurant section of the hotel, the downstairs kitchen is said to be haunted - reports of someone moving around pots and pans and shouting orders has been heard in the early hours of morning, when the restaurant is closed. In the hotel section, Rooms 223, 224 and 226 are said to be the most haunted.

In Room 226, a woman's apparition dressed in a nightgown has been seen looking down into the parking lot and in the second-floor corridor. Additional paranormal reports include knocks and banging noises on the walls, disembodied footsteps on the stairs and in the corridor, the sounds of unseen children playing in the hallways, and a shadowy female apparition that likes to chat with staff while they're in the laundry room.
